Creative, Easy Halloween Craft Ideas
Halloween decorations don't need to be expensive! Garbage bags are an inexpensive material to make fun holiday crafts. Here are some of our favorite easy, creative Halloween decorations using trash bags.
- Make a giant spider out of black trash bags. Stuff a bag with newspaper for the body, then cut bags into 8 long strips for the legs. Use construction paper to create a face. Hang the spider from the ceiling or place it in your yard.
- Decorate your yard with ghosts. Draw faces on the bottoms of white garbage bags, so that they eyes are near the seam and the mouth is closer to the bag's opening. Drape the bags over a metal or plastic frame for outdoor ghost decorations that flutter in the breeze.
- Create eerie curtains. Cut black garbage bags into long strips, leaving a few inches attached at the seam. Hang in a doorway, in front of a window or on your porch.
- Suspend ghosts from your ceiling. Get large Styrofoam balls from a craft store. Place one ball inside of a white garbage bag. Use construction paper to make eyes or spooky ghost faces, and hang from the ceiling.
- Make a seasonal wreath. Shape a wire hanger into a circle. Cut 6" long, 1/2" wide strips of black, white and orange garbage bags. Tie them onto the hanger-circle, pressing them tightly together to create a fuller-looking wreath. Save a bigger strip of bag or ribbon for a large decorative bow.
- Protect your kitchen table when carving pumpkins. Use garbage bags as table cloths. Put garbage bags on the floor, too, to make clean-up easy.
Garbage bags are also ideal for collecting candy, and for cleaning up the mess when the Halloween fun is over! Please remember that garage bags can be a danger of suffocation to infants and children. Please use responsibly with adult supervision and place any stray plastic in the trash so that it is not a danger to wildlife.
